The Hongkong Prize is an annual award given out annually to recognize individuals for outstanding contributions in science and technology. Judging is rigorous, with only the most deserving individuals winning this prestigious honor. This process helps preserve its credibility while drawing top talent into science-related fields; while also creating an environment of excellence and ethical conduct.
Nominating candidates for the Hongkong Prize begins with nominating one officially. Potential nominees must submit an official application, detailing accomplishments and work samples; it will then be reviewed by a selection committee to ensure it fulfills all necessary requirements. In some instances, nominations are made by third parties while in others self-nominations is necessary.
An annual list of nominees is then selected based on submissions received, after which judges review and score each entry submitted to them. Eventually, top scoring submissions become finalists in each category before winners are publicly revealed at an award ceremony attended by prominent figures and dignitaries. The Hongkong Prize is an essential element of Hong Kong’s international development efforts as it serves as an outlet to showcase innovative ideas from Hong Kong as well as shape its place within global society.
Nominees must be Fellows of the Hong Kong Academy of Medical Sciences and must have published an original article (such as prospective or retrospective clinical studies, observational studies, epidemiological research studies or meta-analyses ) in the HKJO in their year of nomination; case reports, review articles or letters to editors will not be considered for consideration for this award.
After conducting an initial screening, the judging panel will shortlist candidates that meet the prize’s criteria and select those to shortlist further. They will assess contributions’ significance, impact and level of innovation before also considering if their contribution is sustainable and valued for long-term gains.
Winning teams will receive both a trophy and a monetary prize; their projects will also be displayed at the Hong Kong Museum of History. Furthermore, both judges will award one team their Prize (HK$8,000 for Judges Prizes and one team per Judge Vote Prize for Public Vote prizes of HK$10,000 respectively).
