Hong Kong is an innovation powerhouse, so it should come as no surprise that students from here are leading the charge in innovation – winning international awards along the way! One such competition, known as Hongkong Prize, gives students an opportunity to showcase their ideas about how Hong Kong can better contribute to international development.
The 10 award categories span language, science and the arts. Au Cheuk-yi of Diocesan Girls’ School’s (DGS), who made history by becoming the youngest winner ever to claim this accolade is currently one of the city’s most promising scientists – currently co-founding an artificial intelligence platform that allows students to navigate virtual spaces and buy student-made products while his ultimate aim is incorporating his invention into medicine.
Jane Poon from an international school located locally was recognized as Sustainability Advocate of the year by Generocity during a competition designed to collect innovative ideas on how Hong Kong could leverage its strengths for sustainable development and international cooperation.
This year’s prize has received record applications from scientists at HKUST. It aims to encourage academics to pursue innovative ideas while building careers locally while contributing globally. Experts from both HKUST and overseas will select outstanding scientific researchers/teams in five areas – Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Life & Health, New Materials and New Energy, Advanced Manufacturing and FinTech.
Hong Kong artists made history this year when nine artists from Hong Kong made it onto Art Prize’s shortlist, marking it as the most represented city ever. Two-thirds of this year’s shortlisters are female – making history! Each winner will receive HK$250,000 to support their creative work and arts projects.
This year marks the third time Hong Kong Science Museum and Shaw Prize Foundation have joined forces to present this extraordinary award in astronomy, life science and mathematics to our community through interactive exhibitions and educational activities.
