The Sidney Cox Prize was created in memory of former Dartmouth College graduate student who died from AIDS. Furthermore, this prize seeks to honor scientific achievements by rewarding researchers or writers whose works have had a positive impact on public life.
Since the 1980s, the Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee has published its list of Notable Books each year with the announcement of winners. These lists cover various subjects and genres and aim to give readers access to an abundance of choices; including both fiction and non-fiction works as well as poetry and children’s literature.
At a time when many disregard long-form writing and thought pieces, the Sdy Prize offers an effective means of raising awareness for these subjects and drawing them into focus. This competition seeks to shed new light on key global issues while encouraging more people to read these types of pieces. Winners will not only receive a monetary prize from Sydney University Press; their piece could even become published there for future opportunities!
