The Hong Kong Prize

The Hong Kong Prize is one of Asia’s premier high school contests, recognizing academic achievements and extracurricular participation. Its mission is to instil young people with self-challenge while equipping them with vital life skills. All Hong Kong students may participate, with teachers nominating up to 10 students each. Shortlisted artists compete for both Judges’ Prize and Public Vote Prize awards.

Winners of the HK Prize gain valuable career-enhancing advantages and are introduced to an international network of potential collaborators. They may conduct their research at top facilities while receiving top media coverage; furthermore, financial prizes and showcase opportunities may also be presented as awards for this honorable feat.

Winning an HK prize brings with it more than monetary prizes and other perks; top ten winners also benefit from building their writing portfolio and networking with fellow writers; this may increase their chances of landing internships or other professional opportunities later on. Before entering any writing contest it’s essential to read over its rules and regulations thoroughly to avoid being disqualified later.

Established to honor Professor Wang Gungwu’s memory, this fund was initiated with an initial donation of HK$100,000 matched under the Sixth Round of Government Matching Scheme and used to establish two awards at the Department of History for undergraduate and postgraduate students respectively.

The award honors individuals and organisations that foster global civilisation, encourage others to build harmonious societies, and demonstrate human resilience when facing challenging times. Previous recipients have included social justice activists battling for democracy in their home countries as well as volunteers providing shelter to homeless adults.

Winners of the HK Price receive a total award of HK$500,000, with Judges’ Prize winner receiving HK$80,000 and Public Vote Prize winner receiving HK$20. Public votes were conducted online between December 2017 and January 2018. Winning artwork will then be displayed at SAF Gallery in Causeway Bay during March.

The prize is open to residents of Southeast Asian and mainland China as well as international applicants. From March 1, participants interested in entering can visit the World of Winners splash page to view all rules and regulations, such as eligibility requirements, submission procedures and more. In order for their entry to be taken seriously, applicants must submit both an essay and video entry submission. Finalists will be chosen by an international jury composed of representatives from Hong Kong’s film industry as well as experts in film. Alongside receiving a monetary prize, winners’ works will also be showcased at an international event and can gain exposure with potential partners or investors. Winning films may even be broadcasted on TVB and shown worldwide cinemas.
